While the fans probably remember every single role their Hollywood idols have portrayed since they followed them, celebrities sometimes forget that they were part of a certain movie. The confusion is real, and the American actress Gwyneth Paltrow could relate to this.
For a big franchise like the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s hard to avoid feeling confused, especially if the storyline features complicated multi-verse settings. There are a lot of cross overs in each story, characters, and plot elements. Some of the superheroes from another film occasionally make a brief cameo that they barely remember.
Those surprise appearances leave a huge impact on the fans. However, due to the fact that celebrities didn’t spend much time on the set of the film, they tend to forget that they were actually part of the casts. Gwyneth Paltrow who portrayed the role of Pepper Potts, for instance, barely remembered that she was part of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Homecoming.
During her guest appearance on Jon Favreau’s Netflix series, The Chef Show, Paltrow burst in laughter when she realized that she worked alongside Favreau in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Favreau was reminiscing their days together on the set of Spider-Man, but Paltrow couldn’t keep up because she thought they only worked together in the Iron Man films.
Gwyneth Paltrow Didn’t Know that Samuel L. Jackson is Part of the Cast
The timeline in filming the scenes of MCU movies adds to the confusion as well. In 2017, Marvel Studios gathered almost all of the casts of the franchise to film the funeral scene for the Avengers: Endgame finale. The gathering felt like a huge family reunion for the other cast members. That was because some of the Marvel films like Black Panther, Captain Marvel, and Avengers: Infinity War had not released yet.
The 46-year-old actress had another moment of bafflement when she saw Samuel L. Jackson on the set. Jackson played the character Nick Fury in the Marvel films. Although the two never appeared in a scene together during that time, the two had been in a couple of Marvel movies like Iron Man 2 and The Avengers. Jackson also had a quick appearance in Iron Man where she played the role of Tony Stark’s leading lady.
Paltrow’s forgetfulness is understandable since she starred in numerous box-office films since 1989. And the Marvel Universe is too complex to remember all the details. Aside from her Marvel movies, Paltrow has appeared in the films Seven, A Perfect Murderer, Shakespeare in Love, The Talented Mr. Ripley, The Royal Tenenbaums, Shallow Hall, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, and many more.
