Vanessa Hudgens has long been admired to her commitment to fitness and living an overall healthy lifestyle. In fact, the High School Musical star is often photographed going to and from gyms by paparazzi.
But she’s gotten into some hot water lately after she posted about a Keto snack on her Instagram.
Keto Snack
Just last week, the 30-year-old actress posted an ad on her social media account promoting Slim Fast’s ‘fat bomb’ snack meant to cater to Keto dieters. She also praised the Peanut Butter Cup Fat Bombs for its delicious taste without the sugar and carbs attached to regular peanut butter cups.
To those unfamiliar with the diet, fat bombs are a rather popular Keto-friendly snack. They typically contain some form of grass-fed butter, nut butter or coconut oil along with coconut, unsweetened chocolate, and dried fruits. And as you may have guessed by now, these are usually packed with fat.
While the Keto diet itself has some critics, it’s generally seen as a good thing within celebrity circles. Some celebrities have even come out to say the benefits of the low-carb high-fat diet to their health. Hudgens herself has admitted to following some aspects of it.
Unhealthy Product
Unfortunately, the actress’ fans and followers were unimpressed with Hudgens’ choice to promote the product. And they made their thoughts known.
The post garnered thousands of comments from people debating whether Hudgens is helping promote an unhealthy weight loss product or not. Some of them also questioned the effectivity of the Keto diet itself saying how the body needs carbs to operate.
Others were more critical of the snack’s nutritional contents though commenting about the shocking fat content of the peanut butter cups. What’s more harmful is the fact that its fat content are mostly saturated fat.
According to the American Heart Association, too much saturated fat may lead to an increase in a person’s cholesterol and risk of developing heart disease.
Meanwhile, Erin Palinski-Wade, a registered dietician specializing in diabetes, says that the fat bombs do fit in the Keto diet plan. However, she warned that having too much of them might be bad for the body considering that the snack is still considered to be processed food.
Vanessa’s Experience With Diets
Hudgens hasn’t commented on the issue yet but past interviews of the actress demonstrate that she is not promoting the diets she does to everyone. She is currently doing a mix of intermittent fasting and Keto for her diet and says that she’s found a recipe that works for her.
Intermittent fasting, as its name implies, is a type of eating which utilizes ‘fasting’ hours and eating hours for weight loss and maintaining blood sugar levels. It could be done in a variety of ways but Hudgens prefers the 18-6 method which entails her fasting for 18 hours and eating for six hours everyday.
