Jessica Alba is a well-established businesswoman today thanks to her successful lifestyle company. In 2015, Alba’s Honest Company, which sells baby food, cleaning products and cosmetics, was estimated over $1 billion.
The company has come under a lot of scrutiny over the past few years due to dishonest marketing claims which have even resulted in serious lawsuits. But that hasn’t stopped it from becoming a billion-dollar business empire.
Alba got the idea of starting an eco-friendly beauty business after she had trouble finding natural diapers after giving birth. The actress who was disenchanted by chemical-ridden household products, decided to take matters into her own hands and create an exceptional product line of her own that would sell all natural baby and household products.
The actress met with Christopher Gavigan and they both started what is known today as the Honest Company. The company started as an eco-diaper delivery service but has experienced an absurd level of growth since then and has expanded its product line to include other household and baby essentials.
The company couldn’t have broken through with only baby food and diapers so it decided to sell other goods to boost revenue. The company partnered with famous celebs Kim Kardashian (Shoedazzle) and attorney Robert Shapiro (Legalzoom) for promotion.
The company has created multivitamins, nursery furniture, cleaning products, balms, bathroom goods, non-toxic detergents and soaps. The products are free from chemicals and toxins like petrochemicals, formaldehydes and flame retardants.
