Fans of the TV series will be glad to know that a “Downton Abbey” movie is finally happening. On July 13 it was announced that the movie is all set for the production. The announcement was made on the official Twitter account of the movie as it is stated that Downton Abbey has come to the party and will be on big screen very soon.
The production of the movie is expected to start this summer. Julian Fellowes, the creator of the movie will write the script in collaboration with Brian Percival. The historical drama revolves around the story of a wealthy English family and their servants. It ran for six seasons with PBS showing it in the US and ITV in the UK. Over the past few seasons, the movie has attracted many devoted fans.

While giving an interview, Gareth Neame, the producer of the movie said that it was their dream to bring millions of the fans around the globe to the movie. He further said that with the efforts of the whole team, almost all the movie stars have aligned and the production is expected to start soon.
As usual, Fellowes’s script charms and entertains, and with the direction of “The Book Thief’s” Brian Percival, we are hopeful to deliver what the fans are expecting. The cast of the whole movie has signed but there is no report about the movie’s plot. One can estimate the success of the movie with the fact that it has won 3 Golden Globes, a special BAFTA award, more than 50 Emmy nominations, and 15 Emmy.

The movie is expected to release next year and it is reported that the movie will resume from the finale of last season. The success of the drama is credited to the star cast like Michelle Dockery, Dan Stevens, and Hugh Bonneville.
Another factor that adds to its success is the revival on the small and big screens. Initially, the movie was a spin-off sequel of another Julian’s Oscar-winning movie Gosford Park. The story of the movie which won Oscar in 2001 revolves around a murder in a stately home. Maggie Smith also features in that movie. While giving an interview to Graham Norton in 2015, Maggie now 83 said that her appearance in any of the upcoming movie is highly unlikely. She said that at that time she would be 110 and that didn’t make any sense.

While giving an interview to the Guardian last year, Julian said that delay in the production of the movie can only be logistical. As compared to the previous seasons, the cast this time is very large and it will difficult to round off the whole cast. He further said he knows that the whole cast is behind us and there is a big audience waiting for the movie.
In many cases, you are taking a risk but he is pretty confident that Downton Abbey will happen. The movies which are started from the British TV shows have a multicolored history. In the 1970’s and 80’s, there was a pause in the commission which then followed a series of comedy spin-offs. And the comedy series include George and Mildred, Are You Being Served? and On the Buses.

Then came “In The Loop” which bucked this trend and the major cast of the movie was first seen in “The Thick of It”. “Dad’s Army” which was released in 2016 is yet to make a sequel and in the US fil industry films like “Baywatch” has received a half-hearted reception.
But when it comes to drama series rather the comedy series, the form decreases. However, films like “Mission Impossible” and “The Man From UNCLE” has revitalized the lineup. In short, Downton Ammey is back in town again and fans can only expect a master class from Julian and his team.
